Second Vice Chairperson

Art Kaldas

Art Kaldas was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt by his parents. His father was a Presbyterian minister and many of his family served the church. He experienced discrimination in Egypt as part of a minority faith. Art majored in Sociology and Philosophy and minored in Psychology at Alexandria University and migrated to the United States in 1968 due to war in the region. Art entered the Seminary in Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina. He was disappointed to discover he didn’t feel the same calling as his father. Art came to Anderson and eventually was hired into a Quality Role at Michelin in Sandy Springs. He retired from Michelin after 36 years of service. In his retirement, Art is a freelance writer, primarily addressing the differences between Western and Middle Eastern Cultures.

Art is dedicated to helping our local community and our great country through the values that bring us together—equality and inclusion. After becoming a naturalized citizen in 1973, Art joined the Democratic Party because he had concerns about Nixon’s re-election and the Vietnam War. Art believes more so than ever that the Democratic Party represents ALL Americans—rich and poor, young and old, and that we as Americans can help each other and our community thrive.

Art considers it a great honor to serve our community and as a Vice Chair of the Anderson County Democratic Party. He believes in the high ideals of the United States of America, because he has seen firsthand the difficulties others experience in other countries.
